Robert Kelton was born in Kansas City, January 1, 1908. He learned how to play a ukelele and was playing in cabarets by the mid 1920s. He learned to play the banjo and moved to Chicago in 1926, then St. Louis in 1927 where he worked with trumpeter Dewey Jackson’s band on river boats. He moved to Phoenix where he played with George Morrison’s band
